Anything Can Happen in the NFL

A

I’ll start off with this: football is more fun when the FCS team beats the FBS team. The underdog winning is the coolest thing. We had a few of those yesterday, but we also had some big-time wins from some of the best in the sport. We’ll touch on CJ Abrams, Bayern Munich, the NFL, and a potential conspiracy theory coming out of the BIG12!

Today’s Trivia🧠

🏈 Who was the first NFL QB to throw for 4,000 yards in a single season?

  • A. Joe Namath

  • B. Brett Favre

  • C. Vinny Testaverde

  • D. Drew Brees

  • E. Ryan Fitzpatrick

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

⚾️MLB pitching legend Nolan Ryan takes the bump for the last time in his career at the young age of 46 years old.

Ryan pitched for 27 years, an MLB record. He recorded 324 wins and has 5,714 career strikeouts, another MLB record. The person second in career strikeouts? Randy Johnson, who has about a THOUSAND less!

What’s Worth Your Time

🏈Saturday STUMPSETS!

Whether you like it or not, it’s always more fun when the underdog wins. Let’s get into which big dawgs fell!

Buffalo @ (23) Northern Illinois: This baby needed OVERTIME to decide who’d take home the W, and it was BUFFALO who won on a game-winning FG in the first overtime. If you remember, Northern Illinois was the squad who upset Notre Dame a few weeks back, and now they get upset themselves. Shoutout to Buffalo man, the program has seen tough times recently, and the boys are 3-1!

James Madison @ UNC: The Tar Heels entered this game as 11.5-point underdogs, but then James Madison showed up on offense. James Madison put up SEVENTY POINTS! They’re lucky they did because UNC also put up 50! An absolutely nuts offensive game! 120 combined points, and James Madison walks out of Chapel Hill with a HUGE win!

Monmouth @ FIU: I’m not one to make fun of teams, but holy cow FIU. Down three points with the ball and 20 seconds left, FIU just needed 15 yards to win, or a FG to tie. FIU completed a pass over the middle, ran it down to the one, and then proceeded to fumble. Monmouth ball. GAME OVER! Love when an FCS squad goes to an FBS and gets the win!

⚽️Bayern Munich Can’t Stop Scoring Goals

Bundesliga is in full swing, and the stars from Munich are shining BRIGHT this year. So bright, they must be blinding the goalies.

To start the year, Bayern Munich is a perfect 4-0. Not only that, they’ve scored TWENTY goals in the last three games. TWENTY! They put up 6 against Holstein Kiel, 9 against Dinamo Zagreb, and 5 against Werder Bremen. I’m not too good at math but that’s a lot of goals.

Mr. Harry Kane himself is responsible for eight of those twenty goals, including a four-goal and three-goal effort in two of the last three. In those three games, they’ve only allowed 3 goals against them. Again, not great at math, but that’s a 17-goal differential. That seems pretty damn good to me.

⚾️CJ Abrams Likes the Casino

CJ Abrams is a cornerstone that the Washington Nationals hope to build their future on, but they can’t seem to get him to go to bed.

When I think of CJ Abrams, I think of a young All-Star who is the future of a struggling franchise that needs SOMEBODY to believe in. Well, the Nationals aren’t so confident that it’s Abrams right now.

The young shortstop was demoted to the minor leagues after he stayed out all night at a Chicago-area casino, and only managed to leave a few hours prior to the Nationals DAY GAME versus the Cubs. Abrams will be sent to Florida, where the Nationals minor league complex is.

I mean, I get it, losing is not fun. But if you’re sick of losing, maybe heading to the casino isn’t the best idea. Cause I don’t know about you, but when I go to the casino, I lose pretty often. In all seriousness though, I hope this is a positive move for Abrams because the kid can play ball and has a bright future ahead of him if he can stay on-track!

🏈NFL Sunday: Primetime Matchups

There are some BIGTIME matchups this week in the NFL and we’re going to break down the games you’re not going to want to miss.

Eagles @ Saints (1:00 PM): The struggling Eagles take on the RED HOT Saints in New Orleans. This is a big one for both teams. The Eagles have been under scrutiny this year in just about every way. While the Saints have been the biggest surprise in the NFL. Can the Eagles get right? Are the Saints for real?

Ravens @ Cowboys (4:25 PM): It’s no secret that an 0-3 start would be extremely disappointing for the Ravens, especially coming off of their dominant year last year. While the Cowboys have been on both sides of the game thus far, looking like world-beaters against the Browns but getting embarrassed by the Saints. Both of these teams need this one early, it should be a dogfight.

Lions @ Cardinals (4:25 PM): This is a really underrated one for me.. the Lions have been up and down to start the year but are very well coached and obviously talented. There is no doubt they are one of the best in the NFC. The Cardinals are a really interesting team, Kyler and MHJ looked unreal last week and I only think they’ll get better, something is brewing in Arizona!

🏈Colorado is Cinema

Yeah, we’ve all heard about Colorado more times than we can count, but hear me out.

I’m not one for conspiracy theories or whatever, but something has to be going on in Colorado right? There’s just no way that this is all real. If last night didn’t convince you that there’s a script that makes Colorado more interesting or more cinematic.

Down 7, Colorado punted the ball away. Baylor returned it ALLLL the way to the 30ish yard line, and we’re already in field goal range with about 5 minutes left. Baylor, of course, misses the Field Goal attempt. Colorado gets the ball back, gets sacked, somehow managed to get the first down on a penalty, and then DROPPED a touchdown.

With two seconds left and about 50 yards left to the endzone, Shedeur Sanders connected on a hail mary to send the game into overtime, and then Baylor FUMBLES on the one-yard line in OT to secure the win after Colorado scored.

Just absolutely nuts stuff. Cinema, out of a movie, whatever. It doesn’t seem real. College football, man.

Yesterday, but the Good Stuff❗️❗️

Bottom Line

ESPN Ticker

The most CRUCIAL thing when there’s just so much sports on. You don’t know how to keep up, but the ESPN bottom line is a beautiful thing man. Really keeps you in the know.

Trivia Answer:

A. Joe Namath! Namath managed to get over the 4,000 yard mark for the first time in 1967! Since then, it’s become much more common for a QB to be able to toss for 4,000 yards in a single season.
