People Aren’t Talking Enough About…

This Swimmer from CT Who’s Beating the Odds🏊️

A little over a year ago, Yale swimmer and Darien, CT native, Ali Truwit was on vacation in Turks and Caicos. Her and a friend were snorkeling off the coast when a shark charged her and bit off her lower leg. Ali was airlifted to the United States to have an emergency amputation of her lower leg to save her life.

Not only was she now living in a new normal, she was also terrified to get back to the one thing that always brought her piece: the water. She suffered from extreme flashbacks and couldn’t bring herself to try to swim again.

To help her overcome her fear of swimming, she started small: the family pool in the backyard. She went to her waist, then her chest, then her neck, until finally all the way in. Little did she know, this would set her on the path to the 2024 Paralympics.

Instead of “Why did this happen to me?” she centered on, “Why not throw everything into something?”. So she chose Paris 2024.

About 15 weeks removed from the shark attack, she was competing again. The more she competed and worked in the pool, the pain and flashbacks lessened.

At the US Paralympic Trials in Minneapolis in late June, she won the 100m backstroke, the 400m free, and the 100m free. All three events she will be competing in in Paris.

A year ago, she could barely get in the water, now, she’ll be swimming for a medal.

On This Day…

In 2017, worlds collided! The boxing world met the MMA world when Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced off against Connor McGregor in the ring 🥊. It was McGregor’s boxing debut.

Mayweather won in the 10th round by a TKO. The next big return to the ring seems to be the Tyson-Paul fight which is scheduled for Nov. 15th in Dallas.

🏈 CeeDIS CASH!

Well folks, Jerry Jones DID IT! Yesterday, the Cowboys and their All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb reached a MASSIVE 4-year deal to make him the second-highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Just a hair behind Minnesota Vikings standout WR Justin Jefferson.

Lambs gets a WR-record $38 million signing bonus to go along with over $100 million guaranteed. That’s a lot of cash.

CeeDee outlasted Jerry Jones and the media onslaught to get the contract he wanted all along, congrats to him and his agent, Tory Dandy.

🏀 Taking a Trip Down Sue Bird Court

In Seattle women’s athletics, it doesn’t get much bigger than Storm and UConn legend Sue Bird. Now, she’ll have a street named after her to prove it.

Seattle mayor Bruce Harrell announced yesterday that a street leading up to Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle will be renamed Sue Bird Court. Bird joins Mariners legend Edgar Martinez and Super Sonics legend Lenny Wilkens, as Seattle athletes to be honored with street names.

Bird was drafted by the Storm in 2002 and played her entire 19 years in Seattle. She won a total of four WNBA titles in her career, more than any other Seattle team in a major professional sport.

Her jersey was retired last June and she is even now part of the ownership group.

⚾️ Everyone Join the Crews

The top prospect in the Washington Nationals organization, Dylan Crews, made his debut last night versus the New York Yankees. Crews is ranked the number four prospect in all of baseball and the No. 1 overall outfielder.

He is the EIGHT different Nationals player to make their MLB debut with the team this season.

Crews was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 draft and started this year in Double-A before being promoted twice on his way to the big leagues. He hit .270 with 13 homers, 68 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases.

He went 0-3 with a walk in his debut, but I assure you better days will come for Mr. Crews.

Real Gone

Often overlooked by another song in the movie, Real Gone doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Well, today it does! What movie is it from? ANSWER

🗣️ Quote OTD🗣️

“He was a bold man that first ate an oyster.”

Jonathan Swift

The first human to eat an oyster must have been either desperate or dared, or both? Or maybe just an odd ball. This guy Jon was an odd ball too, look at that hair!
