On this day in 2010…

The last piece of Yankee Stadium falls in the Bronx, New York. Marking the end of a 2-year demolition process.

The last title for the Yankees was in 2009, coincidence…I don’t know.

“With the 55th Pick of the 2023 NFL Draft the Kansas City Chiefs select: Rashee Rice, WR, Southern Methodist University”. And with that pick, the Chiefs selected their leading receiver for the 2023-24 season, and second-most valuable pass catcher for yet another Super Bowl run.

Rashee ended the 2023-24 regular season 79 receptions, 938 yards, and 7 touchdowns. In the post season, he brought in 26 passes for 262 and a touchdown. Rice was arguably the most important offseason addition to the offense for Patrick Mahomes, and at time, was the most important player on the field for the pass game (especially when Travis Kelce was hurt).

You would think, given all of the success of his rookie season, all of the news in the media about Rice would be positive, excited, and anxious for another year of good ball! That, unfortunately, is the farthest thing for the case. Rice has been in and out of the news for a car crash in which Rice and his friends fled the scene.

The news broke that Dallas PD was searching for Rice and that there was a warrant for his arrest. He was the driver of a Lamborghini that was clocked at 119 mph prior to the accident with his friend, who was driving a Corvette going 116 mph. The two cars hit each other and caused a pile-up with four other cars, resulting in injuries of 8 individuals, including a three and four-year-old.

Granted, this is old news, but now Rice is back in the news again! This time for… assault! (that’s not a happy exclamation point, just a normal exclamation point). Dallas PD has opened up an investigation on Rice relating to the assault of a nightclub photographer. Rice allegedly struck the photographer yesterday around 2:30 AM at Lit Kitchen & Lounge in downtown Dallas.

Look, I’m not perfect, but what are we doing at 2:30 AM on a Monday morning at a nightclub in downtown Dallas? Especially when there’s an open lawsuit on you for hit and run. Maybe take a step back? Idk. Maybe if I had millions of dollars I’d be at a nightclub at 2:30 in the morning on a Monday.

Rice had the rookie season that most NFL rookies dream of, and almost none get. Being a focal point of a Super Bowl winning dynasty, it doesn’t get much better than that. We’ve seen these types of stories relating to young NFL players before, some turn it around, some don’t. The NFL has yet to announce any potential suspension or fine as they wait for all the information to come out and for the legal process to do its job. But if I were Mahomes, Reid, and the Chiefs, I’d put my arm around this youngin’ and try to figure it out. At the least, get him the hell out of Dallas!
